Vidhi Pragati National IP Moot Court at National Law University, Delhi

Our Senior Associate, Girish Bhatia, was recently honored with an invitation to judge the Vidhi Pragati National IP Moot Court Competition at National Law University, Delhi. This prestigious event was organized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in collaboration with the Centre for Innovation, Intellectual Property and Competition (CIIPC) at NLU Delhi and the Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM). The moot court competition centered around a highly relevant and thought-provoking issue in intellectual property law: Can artificial intelligence (AI) be recognized as the co-author of a computer-generated image, and is an AI-generated image eligible for copyright protection? As AI continues to revolutionize content creation, this debate holds immense significance in the evolving landscape of intellectual property rights. The discussions delved into the complexities of authorship, originality, and legal frameworks surrounding AI-generated works, encouraging participants to explore global precedents and emerging jurisprudence. Girish Bhatia, along with other esteemed judges, evaluated the participants on their legal reasoning, advocacy skills, and ability to navigate the intricate intersection of AI and copyright law. The event provided a platform for law students to engage with cutting-edge IP issues, fostering insightful discussions on the future of AI and intellectual property rights.
